Season

Classic tales will be brought to life through stellar music, artistic movement and the literary arts as the Madame Walker Theatre Center launches another performing arts season filled with memorable performances by some of the world’s leading artists and companies. The 2009-10 season titled "Revisiting the Classics" will feature a variety of performances. From a classical opera to a dance concert by a leading international ensemble, the Center's season brings great excitement to Indiana Avenue. Browse the listing below to plan ahead. An Evening with Angela Brown, Soprano - Music

Angela BrownJoin Indianapolis native and Verdi soprano Angela M. Brown as she brandishes pure vocal power and finesse during an evening concert celebrating IUPUI’s 40th Anniversary at 8 p.m. in the historic Madame Walker Theatre. She has won the acclaim of critics and audiences through her powerful voice filled with an inexhaustible palette of varied colors. Admission is FREE.

PHILADANCO - Dance
Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009

PhiladancoBe amazed by the soulful artistry of body movement in this riveting performance by the world-famous Philadelphia Dance Company. Join us this evening as we celebrate artistic movement. The performance is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. in the historic Madame Walker Theatre. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for children ages 12 and under. Please call for group rates.

Conversation with Mari Evans and David Baker - Literary Arts

Enjoy this wonderful discussion featuring noted literary artist Mari Evans and accomplished musician and educator David Baker as they conduct a talk titled, “The Price of Progress” at 6:30 p.m. in the historic Madame Walker Theatre. The program is a part of the 2009 Spirit and Place Festival. Admission is Free.

Freedom Walk - Commemoration
Monday, Jan. 18, 2010

Experience representational democracy at its finest during the third annual “Freedom Walk On The Avenue” Monday, January 18 at 12 p.m. The processional will leave from the front doors of the Indianapolis Urban League down the walkway on Indiana Avenue to the Madame Walker Theatre. The program commemorates the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“Keep the Dream Alive” - Literary Arts
Monday, Jan. 18, 2010

Commemorate the life and legacy of American icon Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., in a 1-hour commemorative celebration Monday, Jan. 18 at 12:15 p.m. in the historic Madame Walker Theatre. The FREE event will feature local artists singing songs of courage, community leaders sharing words of wisdom and dance ensembles presenting dances of praise. The keynote speaker will be announced soon.

Madame C.J. Walker Business Awards Luncheon - Recognition
Wednessday, May 12, 2010

Celebrate the life and legacy of early twentieth century business pioneer Madame C.J. Walker at the board of director's annual awards luncheon and fundraiser. Indianapolis businessman William "Bill" Mays of Mays Chemical Company will be recognized for his outstanding business achievements and ability to inspire others. Admission: TBD.
