Black History Year
The question "What is the Walker doing for Black History Month?" kind of stumped me at first. I thought to myself 'well, nothing we don't do all year long...' Here at the MWTC we celebrate African-American art and artists all year long. Sure, we can highlight some events in February but we're proud to say that we once were and still are the epicenter for black art in Indianapolis, all the time. However, to make it easy on you (and easy on BHM articles), we've listed out the programs and activities we have going on in February. And, if we can say or ourselves, they're all the rage...
Friday, February 18th, - dinner theatre with Freetown Village at 6:30p in our ballroom. The evening entitled “This Little Light…” will feature the singers of Freetown Village and take the audience on a historical musical journey from the mid 1800’s through the mid 1900’s. Monday, February 21st - Steward and Associates speaker series; Roland Martin. Journalist Roland S. Martin is an American journalist and syndicated columnist. Speech begins at 7pm. Tickets at http://www.stewardspeakers.com/stewardspeakers_purchase_tickets.htm.
Friday, February 25th - Soul Food Friday! Enjoy traditional soul food and learn of different techniques and caterers in town. Friday, February 25th at 6:30 is Jazz on the Avenue, our most popular program. Join us in the ballroom with a $10 buffet and listen to the sounds of Mo Betta Jazz. Cash bar available.
Sunday, February 27th join us for Blue Moon Sunday, our monthly open mic. Blue Moon Sunday features an open mic, live band, cash bar, DJ Loubey and a different restaurant each month. Only $5 to get in.
